IEC Registration
What is the Import Export Code (IEC)?
Import Export Code is a 10-digit number that has a permanent validity. It’s issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, under Ministry of Commerce and Industry to anyone who can be trusted with import/export. This code is required for importers and exporters to benefit from DGFT exports, customs or Export Promotion Council.
When will the Import Export code (IEC) be required?
In the following cases, the Import Export Code is required:
- Customs officials need this information when an importer needs to clear his shipments.
- Banks need the money that an importer sends abroad via banks.
- The customs port will need the exporter’s shipment when he sends it.
- If an exporter receives foreign currency directly in his bank account, then the bank will require IEC.
How to get an import export license
Your IEC registration is valid for only one year and must be updated annually.
Banks also require the Import Export Code (IEC) when sending money overseas. Exporters can apply online for IEC Code through Chartered Choice and receive their import export license the same day.
How to register IEC online?
The DGFT is the governing body that regulates the grant of import export licenses, keeps a record and makes rules for the way to grant the certificates.

What is ITR V?

Why do I have to file a return even though my taxes, interest and other fees are paid?
